And I knew a guy who died with a spear in his back.

Very low-life, I know. But I hope you'll still be my friend.

I just haven't been moving in the right circles.

Wait, you've never known anyone who died from poison violets?

You bet, Kara! For most of my life I've managed to keep my passion for opera within some sort of reasonable bounds, but this year I've been more than ever before, and I've found that the more you go to the opera, the more you want to go. I used to stick mostly to the "serious" German stuff too, Wagner and Mozart, but now I'm just as excited by Donizetti and Bellini—well almost. Just saw Adriana Lecouvreur at the Met and loved it, except for the story, which is pretty clunky.

See you Thursday!
